There have been quite a number of new Korean Drama releases this month. Luckily, those that I am interested in, watching and following have been spreaded out nicely in the week according to VIU’s Drama Calendar. I am currently watching Wok of Love, Are You Human?, The Undateables and What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?.
What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? was one of the Korean Dramas I was looking forward to its release and it came out just this month, on 6 June 2018, which is also on my Birthday.
Park Seo-Joon as Lee Young-Joon
What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? is Park Seo-Joon’s latest Korean Drama after Fight For My Way. In What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?, Park Seo-Joon plays Lee Young-Joon, a young, rich and handsome vice president of a major corporation that belongs to his family. The only downside about him is that he is arrogant and a narcissist, he keeps thinking he is handsome (in which he is) and (almost) perfect in everything. Lee Young-Joon developed trauma over a bad incident that happened in the past when he was young that makes him very afraid of cable ties.
Park Seo-Joon has often acted goofy in his roles, you will see an exaggerated and amplified funny side of him in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?. And Lee Young-Joon is really aegyo when he gets infuriated and jealous over Kim Mi-So especially when she went on a blind date in the show.
Park Min-Young as Kim Mi-So
I remember Park Min-Young from Healer where she starred alongside Ji Chang-Wook. I find her quite pretty, her facial features are almost doll-like. She looks very different now from how she looks in the past actually. *ahem, plastic surgery*
Park Min-Young plays Kim Mi-So (aka Secretary Kim), known in the major corporation as a legend because she is Lee Young-Joon’s highly capable secretary that can handle and do anything and everything but she is afraid of spiders. The work outfits that skinny Kim Mi-So (I think she lost weight) wore in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? look very good on her and take note of the dainty and elegant STONEHENgE jewellery and accessories she is wearing in the show. All the designs look so good.
Kim Mi-So wishes to look for her lost brother, ultimately marry someone and live an ordinary life. But since she spends almost all her time in her work also because she had to help clear her family’s debts, she never gets to date so she decides to resign from her job after working for Lee Young-Joon for nine years to spend time to focus on herself.
This lead to the surprised Lee Young-Joon thinking What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? that she wants to resign suddenly. He starts thinking to himself, did he ill-treat her? Was she not paid enough? Did he give her too much work? But always ultimately coming to the conclusion that Kim Mi-So is jealous because she likes him and him not giving her the attention all these years.
After being used to having Kim Mi-So by his side, Lee Young-Joon can’t stand the thought of losing her and accused her of causing inconvenience to him. So in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?, you will see Lee Young-Joon panicking and trying all ways and means to seduce and woo her, hoping to win her back. Then you will see the used-to-be insensitive Lee Young-Joon, who didn’t even know Kim Mi-So is allergic to flowers after having her worked for him for nine years slowly change to become more caring towards her.
Lee Tae-Hwan as Lee Sung-Yeon
I think Lee Tae-Hwan was the assistant to Lee Jong-Suk in W if I never remember wrongly. I can’t comment much about him because I haven’t seen much of his works.
In What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?, Lee Tae-Hwan plays Lee Sung-Yeon, famous writer with the alias name Morpheus and older brother of Lee Young-Joon. Lee Young-Joon abhors his older brother due to I’m guessing the same bad incident that happened when he was young. I’m still watching the show to find out the exact reason of him hating his older brother so much.
Things get complicated when Lee Sung-Yeon returns from abroad to Seoul after three years and gets in between Lee Young-Joon and Kim Mi-So. Morpheus also happens to be one of the writers that Kim Mi-So likes a lot but she doesn’t know it yet. Can you picture the competition between the brothers in your head now? It’ll definitely be interesting to watch on.
Also catch special appearances of Chansung from 2PM in some of the episodes.
