Sinseon Seolnongtang (신선 설농탕) is famous for serving Ox Bone Soup, the Korean dish that you often see the actors in Korean dramas eat first thing in the morning for breakfast after a night of binge drinking.
Seolleongtang or Ox Bone Soup is a Korean dish made from boiling ox bones, brisket or other cuts for long hours, producing a milky broth. Seasoning is generally done after the dish is being served at the table, according to personal taste by adding salt, ground black pepper, red pepper, minced garlic or chopped spring onions.
The slices of meat were tender enough but I find the Ox Bone Soup here a little bland, perhaps the stew version might be slightly better. Or you can always add seasoning to your Ox Bone Soup for a richer taste.
I would understand why the Koreans call it a hangover soup, I guess it’s supposed to hydrate your body and replenish your energy after drinking. It’s basically comfort food, imagine having a bowl of warm Ox Bone Soup in winter.
Sinseon Seolnongtang also serves other Korean dishes like bulgogi and steamed mandu.
A majority of their many outlets across Korea are opened 24 hours, here’s an option for a supper place late at night. This Sinseon Seolnongtang outlet is at Myeongdong but I don’t recommend eating here because of the long queues by the tourists. For a shorter waiting time, try other outlets, it will be better.
