Kongbul

Kongbul

At that point, I was already very tired and hungry from visiting the N Seoul Tower and from the cold weather of spring. Then Elizabeth brought CK & I to Kongbul (콩불) for dinner.

Kongbul is the short for Kongnamul Bulgogi, Kongnamul means bean sprouts and Bulgogi means grilled meat. It is a Korean dish made up of a combination of bean sprouts and bulgogi of course, and other ingredients like rice cakes, vegetables, sausages and spicy sauce. People also usually add on rice or noodles at the end.

It’s actually a very popular Korean food option for the students because it is very affordable costing about 10,000 won a person and it makes a good and fulfilling meal.

Since we had Dakgalbi with meat the day before, we decided to still have meat but with some seafood for dinner, squid to be precise.

I do apologize for the lack of photos, I wasn’t thinking straight from being tired and I just wanted to get my tummy filled with food.

Kongbul Cooking

I think the meal was alright, I like the bean sprouts. Korean bean sprouts are very different from the ones we have in Singapore, they are bigger, crunchier and juicier. And the meat & squid was good too, it’s just that I felt our Kongnamul Bulgogi was a little too spicy for me.

The spiciness lingers for a long time even after I’ve drank lots of iced water. Elizabeth had to dilute the spiciness by adding soup to the dish constantly. I believe you can order it so that it’s not that spicy.

This Kongbul is at Myeongdong and they do have many other outlets across Korea.
