I’ve been to Bangkok so many times, always wanted to try the Go-ang Kaomunkai (also known as Kaiton) Pratunam Chicken Rice but was always unsuccessful. Once I was looking for it and ended up eating at Kuang Heng Pratunam Chicken Rice instead. It was only this trip that I realized that it’s just slightly further down after Kuang Heng Pratunam Chicken Rice.
I wanted to find out what the hype was all about with its really long queue in which I gave up queuing on the second day I was in Bangkok. Tried again on the third day for late Breakfast or early Lunch, it was still crowded but I was lucky to get a seat. The trick is to go slightly before or after lunch or dinner time. Stand in the queue and wait for your seat until they show it to you else be prepared to be told off by this old man.
My verdict after trying the Go-ang Kaomunkai Pratunam Chicken Rice is that it can’t beat the Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice, any Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice. The chicken meat is still tender but slightly drier and not as succulent as the Singapore ones. Their Hainanese Chicken Rice’s chilli sauce is black and sweet, also different from the Singapore orange ones.
But the thing I like is the Go-ang Kaomunkai Pratunam Chicken Rice’s chunky Chicken Blood Jelly! You know you can never get blood cubes in Singapore nowadays and I always look forward to eating this when I go to Bangkok. Most food places will just put one or two blood cube pieces in your soup but here, I enjoyed a plate of it! Craving satisfied!
There’s also a small Mango Sticky Rice stall right next to the Go-ang Kaomunkai Pratunam Chicken Rice shop if you’re up for some dessert after the meal.
