Since it was April, one of the things to do in my checklist for this trip to Korea was catching the cherry blossoms. When it is in season, cherry blossoms can be seen in many parts of Korea, one of the places is chasing cherry blossoms at Yeouido Park.
I remember catching cherry blossoms briefly the very first time I visited Korea. Though it was just a little of them, it was such a beautiful sight. This was my fourth trip to Seoul, if I’ve remembered it right, three out of four times visiting Korea was in April. April is one of the best times of the year to visit Korea.
This year, cherry blossoms were predicted to bloom from after week one in April. The forecast isn’t always accurate, but I am happy the cherry blossoms bloomed later this year allowing me to catch it when I’m there.
I initially wanted to check out the Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival 2019 (영등포 여의도 봄꽃축제), also known as the Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 that happened from 5 to 11 April 2019. I arrived in Seoul on 11 April which was also the last day of the festival.
But I met up with CK Chai & Elizabeth who were also in Korea during the same period of time and off we went chasing cherry blossoms at Yeouido Park instead. There was an endless path of cherry blossom trees at Yeouido Park. We stopped after every few steps to enjoy the view and take photos of the pretty pastel pink cherry blossoms.
This blogpost took me some time to do and prepare, because so many nice photos of the cherry blossoms at Yeouido Park were taken, it’s hard to just select a few to post up. I’m going to let the photos do most of the talking from now onward.
The most beautiful sight chasing cherry blossoms at Yeouido Park is when the wind blows and the cherry blossoms fall down the trees slowly. Cherry blossoms are quite delicate and short-lived, they get washed off and will be all gone after the rain.
When we were chasing cherry blossoms at Yeouido Park, there was a large scale event going on. It was a concert for the Koreans in celebration of 100 years of independence for Korea. And I saw Kang Ha-neul, who was then in the military and made his appearance for the event. There were a number of other Korean celebrities, I finally understood why there were so many fans waiting around in the cold.
