The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar is located at COMO Dempsey along with other restaurants like Candlenut, COMO Cuisine & Ippoh Tempura Bar by Ginza Ippoh and a lifestyle store, Dover Street Market Singapore. Honestly, The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar is not so easily accessible by public transport.
Other than the food which is by acclaimed Michelin Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten (right) and Executive Chef Lisa Revilla (left), The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar’s white interiors with its iconic huge lanterns has drawn many customers locally and tourists visiting Singapore just to take that insta-worthy shot.
The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar is one restaurant I’ve always wanted to visit and try their food but I was saving it for a special occasion. I guess that turned out to be my birthday when Alvina said she wanted to give me a birthday treat.
I ordered a 3 Course Lunch Set ($48++) and Alvina ordered an Appetizer, a Main and a Dessert. In the end, it’s also a 3 Course meal for her.
Appetizers / Starters
I realized Alvina likes Tartares, and Carpaccios too. Actually I like them too, they’re a refreshing way to start your tasting palate for the courses to come.
The shrimps were fresh and meaty. I was surprised the little green beads which are made of Cucumber and the Fragrant Red Chili Emulsion sauce actually went well together with the shrimps. The Gulf Shrimp portion looks like a Main, but it is still considered quite light and suitable to be a Starter.
Mains
The Roasted Cod was cooked to perfection, the meat was soft and tender but be careful when eating it, there are some bones here and there.
The Angel Hair Pasta is a little heavy but pastas are generally more filling and heavy for Mains. The taste combination of the Roasted Asparagus and Basil-Pistachio Pesto goes well together but I find the dish as a whole, a little dry.
Desserts
I have this contradicting preference, I don’t like chocolate and I generally don’t eat them but when it comes to Molten Chocolate Lava Cakes, I can’t resist and melt inside. The Molten Chocolate Lava Cake at The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar was so good!
Crispy yet moist outer layer and when the molten chocolate lava oozes out from within, you just have to order this when you’re there. And the best partner in crime to go with a Molten Chocolate Lava Cake is a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, hot and cold all in your mouth at the same time.
This is a very interesting combination for a Dessert, the Coconut Rice Pudding feels very Malay, Indonesian or Peranakan, then the Citrus Compote (I’m guessing is made of grapefruits and maybe oranges) is western, then the Matcha Ice Cream is Japanese. So it’s actually a fusion of a lot of things, not in a bad way, I quite like it as a whole. In fact, greedy Alvina loved the Matcha Ice Cream so much, she ordered another scoop of it.
We ended our 3 Course meal at The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar with some Monogram Tea. My 3 Course Lunch Set is inclusive of a Coffee or Tea at the end. I had the Earl Grey Neroli Monogram Tea and Alvina had, I can’t really remember, too full from lunch, lol.
Some people were saying I should have ordered and tried the Black Truffle and Fontina Cheese Pizza but I don’t like to order pizzas in a higher end restaurant. Of course, there are many exceptions where the pizzas from higher end restaurants are pricier but yet a lot nicer than the average pizzas out there, perhaps next time. Overall, it was a good dining experience.
I’m getting older, I just wanted a quieter birthday this year. As usual, yearly, Alvina always makes it a point to celebrate it for me, and I’m happy she did. Love her to the moon and back.
