I learnt that Blue Ant Media acquired RTL CBS Entertainment and is now known as Blue Ant Entertainment. Attended the exclusive screening of the first two episodes of Siren at the Screening Room last evening.
Mermaids are real! At least in Siren, they are. This TV show is a fantasy, thriller, mystery.
Legend has it that Bristol Cove was once home to mermaids. Now, this coastal town has a mysterious new visitor with the arrival of a girl named Ryn (Eline Powell), who may just prove that all of the folklore is true.
Ryn catches the eye of a local marine biologist Ben (Alex Roe), and when he begins to show interest, fellow marine biologist Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) becomes suspicious. Others in town, like deep sea fisherman Xander (Ian Verdun), are on a quest to uncover the truth that is out there, and Helen (Rena Owen), the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mysterious creatures than she lets on.
The battle between man and sea takes a dangerous route as these predatory beings are hunted by the military as they return to reclaim their right to the ocean.
Ryn (Eline Powell)
Ryn is a strange and defensive little girl, obviously the mermaid who can’t really talk. Can I just say, Eline Powell’s facial bone structure is kind of scary here or they purposely make it to be since she is the mermaid. Siren depicts mermaids (did I just said mermaids instead of mermaid? *hint*) to be intelligent, strong, powerful and lethal. You will understand what I mean when you see her throwing the table across the room or when she threw the metal pole with such accuracy.
From Left: Ben (Alex Roe) & Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola)
Then there’s Ben, the local marine biologist who finds himself drawn to the mysterious new girl in town, Ryn. There’s something mesmerizing when the mermaid starts singing or humming a tune, like it’s almost magical. Even Maddie admitted she was drawn by Ryn. I find Ben kind of reckless. I mean, if you hear splashes in the water after dark, would your first instinct be to jump into the water to find out what it is? Twice some more! Maybe they’re adding to the thriller and suspense part of the show.
There are lots of questions in my head. Are there others like Ryn? Why is the military hunting the mermaids? Actually I do know after watching the first two episodes but I hope you watch Siren too to find out. Will Ryn manage to do what she has to? Will Ryn come in between Ben and Maddie? Will she be exposed? Will she be safe in the end? I guess I too have to continue watching to find out.
Status: Season 1 will be showing every Monday, 945pm from 4 June 2018 on Blue Ant Entertainment that is available on StarHub Channel 509.
