Did you know that there is a Korea Town in Bangkok? It is also known as Sukhumvit Plaza and it is located in between BTS Nana and Asok. Korea Town (Sukhumvit Plaza) has many authentic Korean restaurants, a Bingsu place and even a Korean convenience store.
I was there one evening for dinner with Alvina. I initially planned to eat at Myeong Ga or Kwang Han Roo from what I have researched online but since Alvina said she wanted to treat because of the scare she gave me the night before, I let her pick the Korean restaurant to dine at.
I don’t exactly know the name of the Korean Restaurant. I translated their signboard name, 호박 식당 and found out that it meant Pumpkin Restaurant so let’s call it Pumpkin Korean Family Restaurant where we ended up having our dinner.
I quite like the old school Korean interior of Pumpkin Korean Family Restaurant with its wooden tables & chairs, concrete partitions, and old school games that Korean children would play when they are young on the wall. I think there’s also a second floor because I saw customers going up and down.
As usual, Alvina likes to over order just because she is very hungry at the beginning of the meal and she said it was her first decent meal after arriving in Bangkok.
They may be Side Dishes but they are essential to every Korean meal, the more different types, the merrier, quite legit. I like their Kimchi Radish Cubes.
Bibimbap
SamgyeTang (Ginseng Chicken Soup)
Gyeran Jjim (Fluffy Steamed Egg)
I initially wanted to eat Korean BBQ Buffet but Alvina said they don’t serve good beef for Korean BBQ Buffets and would rather go for ala carte and order better grade beef. Pumpkin Korean Family Restaurant has different types of beef, Alvina chose a better quality one and it is really delicious, the marbled meat was juicy and tender! Though we didn’t manage to finish all the food, we finished all the beef.
I think Pumpkin Korean Family Restaurant is not expensive by Singapore standards, the bill was higher because we ordered beef and so much for just two of us but by Bangkok standards, it is a little expensive.
