Every year for my birthday, I will try to plan to do something different, something that you don’t usually or can do every day. I happened to have $100 worth of RWS dining vouchers and I thought, why not dine with the fishes at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora located at S.E.A. Aquarium, Resorts World Sentosa to celebrate my birthday this year?
I’m really happy and grateful that Pauline has always been there to celebrate my birthdays the past few years. She is my date again this year and she is also the one to give me the birthday treat. So, thank you! *blows kisses*
In order to get to the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora, we have to go in by the entrance and walk through the S.E.A. Aquarium. The Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora is located almost at the end of the S.E.A. Aquarium. If we would have known, we would have gone in earlier into the S.E.A. Aquarium so we can check out and take photos of the fishes in the huge aquariums. S.E.A. Aquarium reminds me of a bigger version of the old Underwater World also at Sentosa.
Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora
The theme of the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora is obviously under the sea, everything is blue from the interior to the table setting.
Cocktails & Wines
Left to Right: Mojito & White Wine, Ocean Sensation & Red Wine
I learnt through this meal that Pauline is an alcoholic-to-be, just kidding. She was the one who suggested having drinks during mid-day. The Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora had this Double Deal of Wine Pairing at $32 – Choice of 2 Wines (White or Red) and 2 Cocktails at $24 – Choice of 2 Cocktails. I wanted a Cocktail and Pauline wanted Wines so we ended up ordering two of each, that’s 4 drinks in total in the afternoon.
There is no a la carte menu at the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora, they only offer set course meals. I had the 3 Course Lunch Set at $68 and Pauline had the 4 Course Lunch Set at $78. The difference between the Lunch Sets is the addition of a Soup. You can check out the other Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora menu offerings here.
Starters
Complimentary Starter
Actually I don’t really know what I was eating for this complimentary Starter, Tuna perhaps?
Herb Butter Cooked Hokkaido Scallop
Deliciously good.
Kouji Miso Oyster Rockefeller
Not a fan of Oysters but Pauline likes it.
Soup
Ginger Carrot Soup
I don’t like the Ginger Carrot Soup, it tasted weird and was too sour for me. It was more like a curry than a Soup.
Mains
You know the irony when you are eating fishes or anything that can be found underwater while you see them swim by in the aquarium? It just didn’t feel right so we ended up not ordering any fish or prawns.
Asparagus & Sous-Vide Quail Egg
Though the Asparagus & Sous-Vide Quail Egg is a vegetarian option, it was so good! Love the Truffle and Yuzu Butter Sauce.
24H Braised Short Rib
The 24H Braised Short Rib was also very good! The beef was so tender.
Desserts
Red Treasure
Mix Berry, Omija Mousse, Pine Nuts, Soursop Sorbet.
Mandarin & Orange
Mandarin Sorbet, Orange & Grapefruit Saffron Foam, Caramelized Popcorn.
I preferred the Red Treasure to the Mandarin & Orange for desserts. The Caramelized Popcorn in the Mandarin & Orange like lau hong.
There’s this calming and relaxing effect when you watch the fishes swim by in the aquarium as you dine. This was my first underwater dining experience and at the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora and also briefly visiting the S.E.A. Aquarium. They were my firsts and also for Pauline.
Surprisingly, food was really good. I thought it will be crappy and exorbitantly expensive food for tourists but it’s not. And I want to compliment their service especially the waiter serving us, he was very attentive. When we were ordering, he would let us know that a dish contains beef or it is a vegetarian option and also asked if we had any food allergies or any food we don’t take. *thumbs up*
The only thing I don’t like is that it felt as if we were flushed out of the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora after dining, into the carpark. One thing to note is that dining at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora doesn’t allow you to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium freely, you would need to get tickets for that.
